Aviemore railway station is situated on the Highland Main Line and also incorporates services for the Strathspey Steam Railway. The station was opened in 1898, replacing the original building which was built in 1863. The Strathspey Steam Railway used to have their own separate platform separated from the main Aviemore railway station, however after Aviemore train station was refurbished to its former glory in 1998, the Strathspey Steam Railway began using the island platform which can be accessed from the turning to the Left as you enter the Aviemore ski road, over the bridge from Aviemore railway station or walk accross the steam railway walkway from Aviemore railway station.
