Walks
in and around Aviemore and the Cairngorms

Take a stroll through Aviemore, the Orbital path
takes you round the perimeter of the village, and
from there you can take paths off to the Craigellachie
nature reserve.
Walking a little further afield, you can walk down
Grampian Road past High
Range / La Taverna, Turn Left and walk up to Loch
Morlich toward the Cairngorm
Mountain or Right at Inverdruie along the winding
road to Loch En Eilean (Where parts of Monarch of
the Glen was filmed).

"Loch
an Eilean is situated on the Rothiemurchus
Estate. With its ruined castle and scenery,
this is a must see for visitors to Aviemore, and
probably your main memory of Aviemore" |
If you are looking for something special yet very
close to Aviemore, the Spey
Valley golf course has a great orbital path around
it. Follow the course round the River Spey and round
the course to the small loch where the course turns
to the North. Keep walking and you probably pass the
steam train (From the Strathspey
Steam Railway) on its way from Aviemore past Boat
of Garten to Broomhill station (Was Glenbogle in Monarch
of the glen) (There are plans to get the train running
to Grantown once more), and you will find yourself
at the village of Boat of Garten.

"The
Strathspey Railway
is a restored steam railway using part of the
old route from Aviemore to Forres" |
If you're looking for something a bit more challenging,
then you can either walk first from Aviemore to the Cairngorm
Mountain (Click for video),
or take a taxi / bus or your car to the base station. The
Cairngorm Mountain has two restaurants, two gift and outdoor
shops and the UK's highest railway - The Cairngorm Mountain
Railway. To get to the Restaurant at the top of the mountain
(The T-Bar) you first have to jump on the mountain railway
for the 8 or so minute ride to the top of the Cairngorm
mountain. Around the mountain there are many established
paths, each marked at the beginning to show the level of
competency required for each one.The recently opened Coire
Cas Loop Trail is proving exciting for walkers.

"At
4406ft or 1344m, Ben
Nevis is the highest mountain in the country" |
