How to wear Earmitts Ear warmers

Earmitts are a popular way of keeping your Ears warm in the winter, they look good, come in a range of styles / textures and are insulated. Earmitts have no band, they just Snap onto the ear and stay in place comfortably. They can be used for walking, every day use and sports such as running and cycling.

Earmitts are purchased and loved by many people, we have sold earmitts to police officers, horse lovers, road workers, ice hockey players and others. After receiving the product customers often call or email to voice their satisfaction.

We wear Earmitts, i run with them, my wife especially loves to wear the sparkly ones. When running, the Earmitts dont fall off and dont feel uncomfortable.

Earmitts have no head band and just simply clip onto the ear after fitting.

Earmitts are a proven product, even Graham Norton (tv host) wears them in rehersal at the studios.

Tips for keeping warm

  • Choose clothes according to the job - not only the temperature.
  • Dress in an area similar to your work environment. Layer clothes to allow for temperature variances.
  • Avoid perspiration. Keep your clothes dry, both inside and out. Ventilate your clothes regularly when you are highly active and don't overdress.
  • Don’t wear clothing that’s too small or too tight. Poor blood circulation reduces your body’s ability to generate heat.
  • Drink lots of water, cut down on caffeinated and hot beverages. You need lots of water to stay warm. Caffeine acts as a diuretic and can dehydrate. Hot drinks can cause sweating.
  • Don’t smoke or drink alcohol. Nicotine and alcohol dangerously effect the body’s ability to regulate and conserve heat. They effect your extremities in particular.
  • Eat more. Yes, eat more. At least 3,000 to 4,000 calories per day is recommended when exposed to extremely cold environments. Your diet should consist of 40% carbohydrates, 40% fats and 20% proteins.
  • Don’t expose your skin. Exposed skin can freeze quickly. At temperatures of 0O and below your skin can freeze in less than 15 seconds. Avoid touching cold metal or plastic objects with your bare skin.
  • Don’t ignore your body’s signs. Cold hands and feet are signs that your body temperature has dropped. If your hands and feet are cold, make sure that your head is properly covered. If you find that you are drowsy, lose coordination, shiver or breathe slowly, get out of the cold.

The art of layering
Air trapped between layers of clothes insulates better than a single heavy garment. Here are the basics.

Layer 1. Start wth an undershirt or long johns in fabrics which trap body heat and wick moisture away from skin. Socks should be made of wool or wick-dry synthetic like Coolmax.

Layer 2. Wear long-sleeved cotton denim or flannel shirts which allow moisture to evaporate.

Layer 3. Pants and vests made of wool keep body core warm without bulk. Water-proof boots with felt liners or other insulation keep feet dry and warm.

Layer 4. Choose coats and jackets with fleece linings and outer shells made of wind- and water-resistant PVC coated nylon. Fleece is the fabric favored by professional skiers an mountain climbers because it retains natural body warmth even when wet and has a very high "warmth to weight" ratio making it effective without being bulky. Quilted poly/cotton is another excellent lining material. The quilting traps and retains body heat.

Layer 5. Hats, Neck Warmers and Vest put climate control on your side to keep the entire body warm, especially when Hot Rods Warming Packs are inserted in garment pockets.

More about Earmitts Ear Warmers

ONE SIZE FITS ALL! They are ideal for work, play, or evening.
The design has just been improved for a better fit. The special inside frame now has the capability to mold itself to your particular ear shape. The more you wear them, the more comfortable they become!

Ear Mitts® are made with a soft and durable lightweight fleece (3 layers), and lined with 100 gram* Thinsulate™ Insulation from 3M designed to keep warmth in and cold air and wind out.

The unique microfibers of Thinsulate™ Insulation are about ten times smaller than the fibers of most other synthetic insulations, which means they are much more efficient at trapping air. . . and more effective at keeping you warm. It also means there are more fibers packed into the same space, where they can reflect back more of the heat radiating from the body.

Neither repeated machine washings nor dry-cleanings markedly affect the performance of Thinsulate™ Insulation. Tests have shown, in fact, that Thinsulate™ Insulation remains relatively unchanged even after repeated cleanings.

Thinsulate™ Insulation is the smartest choice if staying warm is important to you. When you compare equal thicknesses, the original "warmth without bulk" Thinsulate™ Insulation offers almost one-and-one-half times the warmth of down, and twice the warmth of other high-loft insulation materials.

Ear Mitts® Make the Difference!

An independent testing laboratory investigated the temperature effects on the surface of the ear. Through advanced thermal photography (thermography), lab technicians were able to take a snapshot of temperature variations on the surface of the ear by using an infrared camera to detect the infrared radiation emitted from the head area.

The woman in the pictures below was exposed to frigid conditions inside a walk-in freezer for 15 minutes. In the BEFORE case, the woman was exposed to the freezing temperatures without head or ear protection of any kind. In the AFTER case, the woman was exposed to the same conditions in the freezer for the same length of time wearing Ear Mitts® Bandless Ear Muffs lined with C100 Thinsulate™ Insulation from 3M.
