| About: |
"A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a Golf Club" was the starting point for so many courses in the late nineteenth century. The result of such a meeting held in the Caledonian Hotel on the 13th November 1883 was the formation of Inverness Golf Club. Lord Lovat, the first President, granted the privilege of the Muir and Ord for the purpose of playing golf, with an entry fee of 5 shillings (25 pence).
During the next few years there was a continuous search for more land , building at both Longman and Culcabock. A fine new clubhouse was built in 1908 and the ceremonial key presented by Mrs Kate Roberts is much treasured by the Club. During the Second World War the 11-15th holes had to be cultivated but were happily restored in 1946. In 1954 a new landmark was achieved when the Council approved Sunday play. The Clubs founders set off in tweeds and played their featheries and gutta percha with their baffies and cleeks. The successive office bearers who brought ability, enthusiasm and unselfish sense of responsibility to the duties so freely given when they assumed office resulted in the fine course and clubhouse enjoyed by the current members and visitors.
