|About:||Established in 1898 and designed by one of the grand-masters of golf course architecture – James Braid, “The Boat” is not only a demanding test of sporting skill but also a magnificent setting for the game. The view from the clubhouse, over the 1st and 2nd fairways and beyond, to the Cairngorm mountains – with such distinctive features as the Lairig Ghru and the northern corries of Braeriach – is incomparable, certainly within the realms of Scottish golf.
This Highland grandeur, depending on the day, can inspire high achievement or, in the more common event of disappointing performance, affords the comfort and consolation of communing with nature in uniquely attractive surroundings.

|About:||Established in 1893, Abernethy Golf Club is located on the B970 road between Grantown on Spey and Coylumbridge, just north of Nethybridge. On most days, it is possible to “walk on”, without a reserved tee time. Families are welcome and handicap certificates are not required. For those without clubs we have a few sets for hire.
Abernethy is a traditional Highland golf course, built on natural moorland, and surrounded by majestic pine trees.
The course is suitable for golfers of all standards. Casual visitors will cope pefectly well with the friendly course layout while low handicappers will need to bring their very best short game to score well.
The clubhouse (unlicensed) serves snacks, home baking and refreshments.
Situated in the Cairngorms National Park, Abernethy golf course is home to many wildlife species. Red squirrels abound in the forest bordering the fairways and curlews nest between the seventh and eighth holes. Golfers may even glimpse an osprey flying over the course carrying a fish to feed its young at the famous Loch Garten nest – a rare birdie indeed.

The Spey Valley Championship Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course which meanders through ancient Caledonian pine forests and along the banks of the sparkling River Spey.
The 18-hole par 72 golf course is really 4 golf courses in one. Meandering through the trees along the banks of the sparkling River Spey, it covers 7,153 yards of heathland, woodland, links and inland terrain. The signature hole is the 5th, officially the longest hole in Scotland at 635 yards (par 5). Following the course, you’ll be treated to a walk amongst the wildlife, with sightings of deer, red squirrels and osprey a common occurrence.
The Spey Valley Golf Course construction was opened for play in 2006 and provides the most spectacular 360 views of the highland Mountains and Forests you could imagine! Some of our holes are famous for their outstanding natural beauty; our 5th hole boasts the longest hole in Scotland (at 635 yards) and our 6th spans a lake which has been adopted as a nesting site by a bird colony. When you reach the 12th at the start of the home stretch, Spey Valley opens up before you like a film set

The PGA Scottish Hydro Challenge kicked off with some challenging weather on Wednesday. With changing winds, and clouds threatening rain coupled with some pretty bad light, it was an interesting day for pros and invites to say the least.
The Pro AM was attended by high profile guests such as former Scottish Football Association chief Gordon Smith, who played a fair game.
Matteo Manassero and Jamie Mcleary will play together on Thursday, until now they have only met briefly, the competition will be exciting, with the player most suited to the course, weather and challenge winning the bounty.

Holiday Guide Scotland
A key part of Scottish heritage, golf, or `gowf` as it was known in the Fifteenth Century was once deemed a distraction from military training and banned from taking place by King James II. However from its re-introduction within the Treaty of Glasgow in 1502 to it`s current standing as a leading sport Golf in Scotland is now a well respected and popular holiday activity.
Of course part of the attraction to taking a golfing holiday in Scotland is the surrounding landscape and for those looking to book such a break it is worth considering where in Scotland you want to be.
Consider carefully because you`ll be spoilt for choice! There are around five hundred and fifty courses in various locations in and around Scotland, giving you the ideal opportunity to improve your game whilst relaxing and taking in the local scenery.
Key courses include Muirfield, Turnberry the Old Course at St Andrews, Royal Troon and Carnoustie. However for trying your hand at a championship course, Gleneagles is an ideal venue and one that will be hosting the famous Ryder Cup in 2014 and rightly so.
This PGA Centenary golf course boasts 18 holes and a par 72 set within exquisite Heathland. For an alternative venue, Royal Dornoch will take you into the Scottish Highlands for your game and places you at the centre of a designated National Scenic Area. Near to the sea and with an award winning beach this location would suit families as well as individuals seeking a combination of fun, relaxation and a bit of peace and quiet.
Blairgowrie in Perthshire offers two championship golf courses for those more experienced in the game. Or for beginners a nine hole course serves as an excellent introduction to the sport.
When choosing your holiday don`t forget to check the championship schedule. With Scotland hosting the competition three out of every five years you may well be in for a treat with golfing action from some of the best sportsmen and women from around the world.
