Ruthven Barracks Kingussie video

You can visit Ruthven Barracks any time, just park at the bottom accross the road, clamber up the hill and open the gate. For something a little more special, wait until night time and go up to the castle, because by night Ruthven Barracks is floodlight.

Ruthven Barracks was built by General Wade as part of the infrastructure put in place by Government after the 1715 uprising to control the rebellious Scots. The barracks was burned in 1746 by Prince Charles Edward Stuart's army on their retreat to Culloden.

There is currently no roof on the castle, but it has been preserved and restored nicely, inside there are boards showing how the soldiers lived, eat and cooked, and more!
